G.C.E (A/L) Chemistry Practical Training Workshop on Qualitative analysis in inorganic and organic chemistry will be held on May 25-26, 2023 at the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon (ICHEMC), Rajagiriya.
Hands-on Practical workshop will be conducted for 4 hours in the ICHEMC laboratory and explanation of related theory & discussion of A/L questions conducted via Zoom.

Practicals covered during Workshop
• Identification of elements in compounds by the flame test
• Identification of anions (halides, SO42-, SO32- , S2O32- , S2, CO32- , NO3 )
• Identification of the colours of complex ions in an aqueous medium
• Observation of reactions and properties of alkenes and alkynes and bromine water.
• Examination of the properties of alcohols
• Examination of the properties of phenol
• Tests for aldehydes and ketones
• Examination of the properties of carboxylic acids

• Will provide hands-on experience (most of the experiments will be done individually). Procedures and observations absorb quicker and stronger when you do it on your own.
• Will provide all necessary chemicals, glassware, handouts, and safety equipment.
• Theory and related A/L questions will be discussed via two Zoom sessions (One before the workshop and one after the workshop).
• All practicals are based on A/L Chemistry Practical Handbook (2018).
• All sessions (workshops and online discussions) will be conducted by senior lecturers.
• Teaching assistants will properly guild you to do practical.
